We lay tarmac driveways in Poynton for the post-war detached homes and semis across SK12, from the roads off London Road and Chester Road to the quieter streets near Poynton Pool and the houses up in Higher Poynton. As local tarmac driveway installers, we often replace original concrete drives that have cracked and sunk. Tarmac gives a smooth, durable surface that is quick to lay and good value over a large area.
Book a free site survey and we will measure the drive, check the falls towards the garage and road, and send you a fixed written quote. There is no obligation. Our employed team does all the work, from breaking out the old drive to rolling the final layer, without sub-contractors, and we are fully insured on every Poynton job. We also keep the road clear for neighbours.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Many Poynton homes have garages set well back, so long tarmac runs are common. Popular ideas include black tarmac with a charcoal block border, a red tarmac drive with buff kerbs, or setts across the entrance to define the line. We also resurface sound but faded drives, cut out and repair potholes, and widen the front for a caravan, motorhome or work van.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Poynton expanded quickly in the post-war decades, and plenty of homes still have the concrete or early block drives they were built with. These have often cracked, dropped at the edges or let weeds through. Long, narrow runs to set-back garages need an even fall so water does not collect at the garage door. Properties in Higher Poynton and near the Middlewood Way can sit on a gradient. Cheshire East Council deals with dropped kerbs, and we explain what they will need from you.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
A Poynton tarmac drive is priced on its length and width, how much old concrete or block has to come out, the base needed and the edging you choose. Widening for a caravan or adding drainage also changes the figure. We measure everything at a free survey and fix the cost in writing. Call 01625 365403 to arrange it.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
Tarmac works well in Poynton, particularly on long runs to set-back garages and on wider frontages where a van or caravan parks. We set falls carefully on sloping plots and direct water to a soakaway or border to meet the permeable surface rules. Edging is vital to stop the sides breaking away. If you want more colour or pattern, block paving or resin bound might suit the house better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
