We lay tarmac driveways in Romiley for the homes along Compstall Road, the streets around Hatherlow and the properties climbing towards Werneth Low. As tarmac driveway installers across SK6, we understand how steep drives and heavy rain wear out weak surfaces, and how quickly a thin base fails once water gets beneath it. A tarmac drive on a properly built foundation gives a grippy, seamless finish that copes with Romiley's slopes and hard winters.
Your free site survey covers gradient, drainage and access for our machinery. We then send a fixed quote in writing, with no obligation and no deadline for deciding. Our employed team does the whole job, never sub-contractors, and is fully insured from the first cut to the last pass of the roller. We work carefully around stone boundary walls and keep the road clear for neighbours.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Romiley's hills suit tarmac because it binds into one firm sheet that resists water running underneath and washing the base away. Ideas we often suggest here include red tarmac with a stone kerb, black tarmac with a block border and steps, or a band of setts across the entrance. We also resurface worn drives, cut out potholes and cracks, and widen parking for a second car or van.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Streets rising towards Werneth Low and Hatherlow give many Romiley homes a drive that is steep at the gate and level by the house, or the reverse. That change in angle is where cars scrape and old surfaces break up, so we set out a smoother transition. Runoff from the road above is another common problem, and a channel drain at the entrance usually solves it. Homes near the Peak Forest Canal and Chadkirk suit softer red finishes. Stockport Council handles any dropped kerb.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
Romiley tarmac drive prices depend on the size, gradient, drainage, base depth and edging. Steeper drives that need channel drains, steps or a reshaped entrance cost more than flat frontages, and narrow access for machinery can add time. Breaking out old concrete is another factor. We measure at a free survey and fix the price in writing. Call 0161 841 7075 to book.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
Tarmac is a good fit for most Romiley drives, offering strong grip on slopes and handling vans, delivery lorries and winter weather. We direct rainwater to channel drains or soakaways so the permeable front garden rules are met, and set a firm kerb so the edges hold. Where frontages are flat and small, or you want a lighter finish, block paving or resin bound may suit better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
