We lay tarmac driveways in Cheadle for the 1930s semis off Wilmslow Road, the older homes around Schools Hill and the village High Street, and the streets heading out towards Gatley and Heald Green. As local tarmac driveway installers, we are often asked to replace cracked concrete or lifting crazy paving with a smooth, dark finish that lasts. Tarmac is a practical, good-value surface for side drives, garage runs and wider frontages across SK8.
A free site survey always comes first. We measure, check where the water goes and look closely at the condition of whatever is there now, then confirm everything in a fixed written quote with no obligation. The installation is handled entirely by our own employees, never sub-contractors, and we are fully insured. Footpaths stay clear while we work, and we leave the street as we found it.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Lots of Cheadle semis have a long, narrow run beside the house leading to a rear garage, and tarmac surfaces that strip quickly and evenly without dozens of cuts. To finish it, owners here like a red block border against the brickwork, black tarmac held by a charcoal kerb, or a line of setts at the footway. We also resurface sound drives, fill potholes and widen frontages for two cars.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Cheadle is mostly 1930s semis with narrow side drives, mixed with larger detached homes and some modern infill. The faults we see most are cracked concrete, crazy paving rising at the edges and water lying near the front step because the drive was laid flat or tilted the wrong way. Many families want room for a second car, so widening into the lawn is part of most jobs. Busy routes such as Wilmslow Road and Stockport Road make safe off-road parking valuable. Stockport Council handles dropped kerb applications here.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
The price of a Cheadle tarmac drive depends on its length and width, the old concrete or paving to be removed, the depth of base, the edging and any drainage. Widening a narrow side drive adds groundwork, and a new dropped kerb is a separate application. We measure on site and confirm the cost in writing. Phone 0161 841 7075 to book your free survey.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
For most Cheadle semis, tarmac is a sensible, long-lasting option, especially on narrow side drives and garage runs where a seamless surface is easier to lay. The ground is fairly level, so we build in falls to a soakaway or planted border to meet the permeable front garden rules. It copes with vans. If you want more pattern or a lighter colour, block paving or resin could suit better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
