We lay tarmac driveways in Stockport for homes across SK1 to SK8, from the semis around Adswood and Bramhall Lane to the hillside streets of Offerton and the family homes near Woodbank Park. As tarmac driveway installers covering the whole borough, we also work regularly in Marple, Hazel Grove and Heaton Moor. Tarmac gives a strong, grippy, seamless finish that copes well with the steep drives found in so much of the town.
Every Stockport job starts with a free site survey, because gradient and drainage decide how a drive must be built. We measure, check the falls and the ground, and then send a fixed quote in writing with no obligation. All work is done by our own fully insured team, never sub-contractors, from breaking out the old surface to the final roll.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Stockport's hills suit tarmac, which binds into a solid sheet and resists washing out where water runs downhill. Ideas that work well include black tarmac with a block paving border and steps, red tarmac with a granite sett apron at the pavement, or a resurfacing overlay on a sound base. We also repair cracks and potholes and widen drives for vans or a third car on larger plots.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Much of Stockport is built on slopes, and many drives send water towards garages or front doors. We correct the falls, add channel drains and build a base that will not wash out. In Adswood and Shaw Heath frontages are modest and street parking is busy, while Offerton and Woodsmoor have larger semis with room for two cars. Houses near Woodbank Park can have mature trees close by. Stockport Council handles dropped kerb applications, and we explain the process at the survey.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
Stockport tarmac driveway costs depend on the size, the slope, the depth of base and excavation needed, the edging and any drainage channels. Steeper drives need more groundwork. A flat Adswood frontage is a simpler job than a steep Offerton drive. We measure on site and give a fixed written price. Call 0161 841 7075 and we will book your free survey.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
Tarmac is a strong choice for many Stockport homes, particularly on steep or long drives where grip matters, and it takes the weight of a work van. We design falls to channel drains or soakaways so water stays on your property and the permeable rules are met. On flat, small frontages where you want pattern, block paving or resin may be better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
