Our team lays tarmac driveways in Hale for the large detached homes along Bankhall Lane, the period houses near Hale station and the gated plots out towards Hale Barns. Long approaches are common in WA15, and machine-laid tarmac is one of the most practical ways to surface a big area with a smooth, unbroken finish. As specialist tarmac driveway installers, we plan the edges, falls and gate lines with as much care as the surface itself.
Hale projects usually involve gates, lighting and planting, so we survey every property in person, at no charge, before quoting. You receive a fixed price in writing and are under no obligation to go ahead. We never use sub-contractors: our own fully insured team does the excavation, base and surfacing, and the same faces stay on your job until it is finished.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Tarmac suits Hale's long drives because it covers large areas evenly and takes the weight of delivery lorries and builders' vans. For a more considered look, we often frame black tarmac with a double row of granite setts, add a tumbled block border along the lawn, or use red tarmac to soften a contemporary house. Tired drives can be resurfaced, and potholes and cracks cut out and patched.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Hale is known for big plots, mature trees and long, gated drives. Before any tarmac goes down we locate gate motors, buried cables and lighting ducts, and we take care around roots near the boundary. Some streets close to the station fall within a conservation area, where a crisp edge and a sympathetic border help the drive sit well with older brickwork. Ongoing extensions and rebuilds on many plots mean drives must cope with heavy wagons. Trafford Council is the authority for any vehicle crossing.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
In Hale the price is shaped by the length of the drive, the depth of base needed for heavy vehicles, the type of border, and extras such as channel drains, gate track ducting or lighting. Removing an old gravel or concrete surface also adds time. We measure on site and fix the cost in writing. Phone 0161 841 7075 to arrange a free survey.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
Tarmac is a strong choice for longer Hale drives and private lanes, because it takes heavy vehicles and covers a large area evenly. We build in falls to channel drains or soakaways so the surface stays within the front garden rules. On shorter frontages or period homes near the station, resin or premium block paving may suit the house better, and we will say so honestly.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
