We lay tarmac driveways in Marple for stone cottages, Victorian villas and post-war family homes across SK6, from Hawk Green and Marple Ridge to the streets near Memorial Park and down in Marple Bridge. As tarmac driveway installers used to steep ground, we build every drive with deliberate falls and a firm, compacted base. Tarmac gives excellent grip on Marple's slopes, copes with heavy rainfall off the hills and handles frost far better than loose gravel.
Every Marple job starts with a free site survey, where we measure the gradient, check drainage and note any stone walls, steps or gateposts that need protecting. You then receive a fixed written quote with no obligation. Our own fully insured team carries out the whole job, never sub-contractors, and we tidy the site properly at the end of each working day.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Marple's steep drives are where tarmac excels, binding into a grippy surface that will not wash downhill. To suit the local stone, many homeowners choose red tarmac, a natural stone kerb or granite setts at the entrance. Black tarmac with a block border suits newer homes on Hawk Green. We also resurface steep lanes, repair potholes and frost cracks, and cut in wider, level parking bays.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Hill roads such as those up to Marple Ridge mean many drives climb or drop sharply from the gate, and rain coming off higher ground can turn them into streams. Around Hawk Green, older drives are often broken concrete or gravel that has migrated onto the road. Cottages near Marple Bridge have tight access, so we plan how machinery and materials reach the site. Near Memorial Park and the canal, softer red finishes suit the setting. Stockport Council handles dropped kerbs in Marple.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
Marple tarmac driveway prices depend on the size and gradient of the drive, the drainage the slope needs, the base depth and the edging. Tight access for machinery near Marple Bridge, working around stone walls or building steps also add time. We measure at a free survey and give a fixed written price. No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
On Marple's slopes, tarmac is one of the best choices, giving strong grip in wet and icy weather and coping with heavy vehicles. We direct water to channel drains or soakaways so the permeable front garden rules are met, and fit a solid edge so the sides do not break away. On flatter frontages beside older stone cottages, resin bound or natural-look block paving might suit better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
