Belvoir Contractors lays tarmac driveways in Altrincham for homes across WA14 and WA15, from the Victorian villas along Dunham Road to the inter-war semis near Stamford Park and the newer houses at Broadheath. Many customers find us while looking for tarmac driveway installers who also cover Hale and Timperley, and those neighbouring streets are part of our regular round. A machine-laid surface gives a smooth, dark, hard-wearing drive that shrugs off the daily school run.
Nothing is priced until we have walked the drive with you. Our free site survey looks at the levels, the existing base and where rainwater currently goes, then we put a fixed quote in writing with no obligation attached. The people who dig out, lay the stone and roll the tarmac are our own employees, never sub-contractors, and the whole team is fully insured.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Ground in Altrincham changes from street to street, so we size the stone base to what we find rather than to a standard depth. Popular ideas here include a charcoal block border against red brick, a granite sett apron where the drive meets the pavement, or red tarmac for a softer look beside period homes. We also resurface tired drives, cut out potholes and widen frontages for vans.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Altrincham frontages swing from short, flat spaces in front of Broadheath terraces to long, curving drives off Dunham Road, where tarmac is often the sensible way to cover a big area. Mature trees on older plots mean we watch for roots, and gate piers on period houses need protecting while the machines are working. Parking is scarce near the town centre and the interchange, so every off-road space counts. Where a crossing must be widened, Trafford Council approves it, and we explain what they ask for first.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
Cost in Altrincham comes down to the size of the drive, the depth of base the ground needs, how much old concrete or gravel has to be removed, and your choice of edging. A long Dunham Road approach and a compact Broadheath frontage are very different jobs. We measure everything on site and fix the price in writing. Call 0161 841 7075 to book a free survey.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
For most Altrincham homes, yes. Tarmac suits the longer drives here and takes the weight of vans and delivery lorries. Because front gardens have to drain, we fall the surface to a planted border, a soakaway or a channel drain so you stay within the permeable surface rules. On conservation streets near The Downs, resin or clay pavers can sit better with the house, and we will tell you so.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
