We lay tarmac driveways in Chorlton for the Edwardian semis off Wilbraham Road, the homes along Edge Lane and Hardy Lane, and the streets running down towards the Mersey. As tarmac driveway installers covering all of M21, we often help families create off-road parking on a short frontage, and we work just as often in neighbouring Whalley Range. Tarmac gives a smooth, tidy finish that suits busy households and costs less than many decorative surfaces.
Our free site survey works out exactly how a car will sit on your frontage, allowing room to open doors and reach the front step. We then send a fixed written quote with no obligation. The whole job is done by our own employed and fully insured team, never sub-contractors, and we keep the pavement passable for neighbours while we work.

Customer opinions matter to us. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and here is what customers say.

Tarmac is quick to lay, tough and good value over a large area. It copes with heavy vehicles, gives a smooth, seamless finish and is easy to maintain.
Tarmac suits Chorlton's compact frontages because it forms one even surface right up to the step, with no joints to trip on. Ideas that work well include red tarmac edged in clay pavers to match the brick, black tarmac with a charcoal kerb, or a sett strip along the front wall. We also resurface old concrete, mend potholes and widen drives where a wider plot allows a van.
Want a permeable finish instead? Ask about resin driveways.
Water gets in, freezes and breaks the surface up further.
Once the surface starts to fret, patches rarely last.
Low spots mean the surface or base has sunk.
Old tarmac loses its colour and starts to look worn.

Most of Chorlton-cum-Hardy was built in the late Victorian and Edwardian years, long before anyone expected to park at home, so front gardens are short and kerbs are full height. Chorltonville is a conservation area with its own character, and the streets around Beech Road are tightly packed. Older concrete drives often tilt the wrong way, sending rain towards the doorstep. Parking near the shops on Wilbraham Road and Barlow Moor Road is scarce. Manchester City Council approves dropped kerbs here, and we explain the application.
We also lay tarmac driveways in these nearby areas, with the same team and the same guarantees.

Often, yes. If the existing tarmac is sound and the levels allow, we repair cracks and soft spots, apply a tack coat and lay a new surface course over the top. If it is breaking up, sinking or would end up too high against the house or the kerb, we dig out and start from a proper base.
Tarmac (asphalt) is one of the most recycled construction materials: old surfaces can be planed off and reused in new mixes. It is not permeable, so on a front driveway we make sure rainwater runs to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than onto the road.
A well-laid tarmac driveway typically lasts 12 to 15 years before it needs resurfacing or major repair. Small repairs to cracks may be needed over time, but other than that it needs very little maintenance.
Very easy. A sweep and an occasional jet wash keep it looking good. Keep weeds off the edges and get any cracks sealed early so water cannot get underneath.
The cost of a Chorlton tarmac drive depends on the size of the frontage, whether a wall, hedge or old path has to be removed, the base depth, the edging and any drainage. A dropped kerb, if you need one, is a separate application. We price after a free site survey and put it in writing. To book, call 0161 841 7075.
No. Our tarmac driveways are always laid by our own qualified and fully insured team. We never use sub-contractors, so the people who survey your drive are the people who build it.
Tarmac is a practical choice for many Chorlton homes, particularly wider semis and shared entries, and it handles vans well. Because frontages are flat, we fall the drive to a border, soakaway or gully so it meets the permeable front garden rules. On very tight terraces or in Chorltonville, block paving or resin bound may fit the house and the street better.
In England, a new front driveway over 5 square metres that is not permeable needs planning permission if rainwater runs onto the road. If it drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property, it usually does not. We plan the falls and drainage so your new drive stays within the rules.
